Artist's Description
This is the first painting in a series of chair paintings I started a couple years ago. It is a signature and seminal piece for me. I started using the chair for inspiration because there is no definitive chair form but there are certain defining features of chairs that even when abstracted say "chair". This play on peoples perception is meant to draw them in to seeing things at more than face value and to interpret things in a different way. I hope you enjoy it.
About John Gibbs
Greensboro based artist, John Gibbs, has been painting since early 2000. While working in Chicago as an Art Director he began painting as a more personal creative outlet. His work is still influenced by his work in computer graphics and commercial art. John’s work has been seeking a balance between representation and abstraction or ambiguity. John draws inspiration from landscapes, people, animals, and things. Through the creative process of rendering these things he shows the viewer a different perspective and interpretation from his life experience.
