I painted this landscape after a long trip to visit family. On the drive home when I see Pilot Mountain, it is a clear sign that I am almost home. I love seeing it appear on the horizon and get larger and larger until you get this perfect view driving up on it. I really loved that on the day that I took this picture reference there was a beautiful cloud just past the mountain. I've painted this mountain a couple times and sure that I will paint it again.
Greensboro based artist, John Gibbs, has been painting since early 2000. While working in Chicago as an Art Director he began painting as a more personal creative outlet. His work is still influenced by his work in computer graphics and commercial art. John’s work has been seeking a balance between representation and abstraction or ambiguity. John draws inspiration from landscapes, people, animals, and things. Through the creative process of rendering these things he shows the viewer a different perspective and interpretation from his life experience.
